How to Check Tire Pressure

One of the most important things you should do before going out on a ride is checking your tire pressure. Not having the proper amount of air in your tires can result in poor handling, uneven tread wear, or even damage to the tire. Any of these items can lead to an accident or unnecessary wear and tear on other components of your machine.

The first thing you want to do is make sure you have a quality air pressure gauge, we like ones similar to this one from Motion Pro with the longer hose extension so you can reach almost anywhere with it.

The next thing is to make sure you know what the manufacturer recommends for air pressure. All manufacturers list this in the owner’s manual, if you don’t have an owner’s manual you can typically look at a digital version on the manufacturer’s website. Here’s the links for the brands we carry:

Can Am

Ducati

Polaris

Kawasaki

Once you verify the proper air pressure for your tires, you want to do the following:

– Remove the valve stem cap

– Press the gauge firmly on the valve stem

– Read the tire pressure and adjust it accordingly

– Reinstall the valve stem cap

– Repeat for all tires.

**Make sure you check the tire pressure before you go out on a ride since tire pressure increases as the tires warm up. **

Joe Tells His Story

We here at Johnny K’s want to learn more about you, but also want you to learn more about us. We all have a story that brought us into power sports, but sometimes that story isn’t what it seems.

Our Sales Manager, Joe, has worked a few different career choices before joining the staff at Johnny K’s four years ago. After spending some time in the military he decided to get into the power sports industry as a part of our sales team. Having started riding power sports from the time he could walk when he received a hand me down 1988 Yamaha 100 RT dirt bike from his cousin, Joe has been an avid rider ever since.

If you asked him his favorite place to ride, he would ask you what season we’re talking about. In the summers Joe can be found on the lake on his SeaDoo Wakes or a boat, on the trails in his 2017 Polaris RZR 1000 Turbo (more about that in a few), hitting the streets on a Ducati and in the winters he can be found hitting the trails on a SkiDoo or Polaris snowmobile (depends on his mood).

His best memory when it comes to power sports is when he went to Camp RZR at Jericho Mountain State Park last year and proposed to his (then) girlfriend. She, of course, said yes and Polaris happened to find out and gave them their new RZR Turbo as an engagement/wedding gift.

When it comes to gear, Joe seems to be a fan of FXR in the snow, Bell for his off-road and he is slightly (okay very) attached to his Rusty Malinoski Rockstar Edition Hyperlite wakeboard.

All of us have a story and we want to hear yours, so send them in to our Facebook page, Instagram, or Twitter and let us know what brought you into power sports and some of your background.
